Orangerie, Monet's Water Lilies

When we think of the Orangeries in Paris we think of Monet's final masterpiece -- his enormous water lily paintings.
He called them his Grandes Decorations. What a pleasure to visit them again.
We always forget there is not just one room, but there are twovast, circular rooms, lined with the works.
Monet conceived and painted them in the last ten years of his life to provide Parisians with a peaceful haven from the bustling city.
They still work their magic.
as visitors succumb to a calm, horizon-less, abstract world
of water, reflections and plant life.
